Sibling Donor Stem Cell Transplants - Almost Free

Date: January 3, 2007

Stem cell transplants are intimidating. It is hard to figure out who should go this route - and when to do it. And they are not cheap. Depending upon the center doing the transplant and the complexities of the specific case, a stem cell transplant can cost as much as half a million dollars.

So, you will understand my ears perked up when I heard rumors of a clinical trial at the National Institute of Health (Bethesda, Maryland, USA) which might give CLL patients a chance of getting state-of-the-art stem cell transplant, just about for free (barring travel to and from Bethesda, and minor incidental costs).  I am not kidding folks.  This is a for-real opportunity, and it is open to all patients that fulfill the reasonably simple inclusion criteria for sibling donor stem cell transplants.

It is open to all comers, not just American citizens or USA residents.  CLL Topics is an international organization, and we have members in more than 80 countries.  We are delighted to bring this unique opportunity to the attention of all of our international members as well.  If you have aggressive CLL, and had given up on the chance of ever being able to afford a potentially curative stem cell transplant, this may be your chance.  But only 20 or so patients will be selected, and you may want to act quickly if you would like to be considered for it. Our latest article gives you all the details, including contact information Stem Cell Transplants – Almost Free of Charge!

PC and I wish all our members a happy and healthy 2007!
