Alert Number 166

Safety Concerns: Epogen, Procrit, Aranesp

Date: June 7, 2006

More than two years ago we published an article titled The Dark Side of Epoetin, in which we discussed the potential serious risks of over-indulging in epo drugs (brand names Epogen, Procrit and Aranesp). The reason for re-visiting the subject now is that the latest information published in the May 17, 2006 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute suggests the risks are even greater than we thought they were.

Indiscriminate use of epo drugs may cause your cancer to progress faster, you may be more at risk of heart attacks and stroke, and the ultimate penalty, they may even decrease your overall survival!

I hope I have got your attention with this short introduction to the subject. You can read the full review at The Dark Side of EPO - Getting Darker.

Be well,

Chaya
